So Ive had some interest from some musicians
to have a private jam room setup where they can
avoid the CC license and tightly control broadcast
and recording options.
My immediate reaction was -- "If you're going to offer this service, you need to get a good charging model in place". I think it's a pretty good idea and can see why people would want someone else to have the hassle of running the server for them. You'll be an internet service provider, of course, so there may be relevant legislation you need to be aware of. IANAL, etc...
please and thank you - especially in performances for public
audiences it would be good to have a bit more control.
that said, if it's too expensive I don't think it will
work for me.
perhaps a donate button could be placed on the interface
of a private session so that people can easily donate.
it would be even better to be able to attach the flash
player to a private session. then people can tune in and
that would also make it easier to get donations.
then whatever is donated during that private session could be
credits towards the cost of that session and perhaps future
private sessions by that user.
I think this is a great idea and I am happy to help in whatever
way I can. Just let me know.
You could just set a charge per hour for people to hire, any problems u just refund them, saves ya loads of hassle.
Topic could be set to just inform them content used and broadcast from the server is responsibility of there's so anything that breaks any laws will be down to them. Make sure they provide a proper email and no yahoo, hotmails and so on but proper ISP email or domain then email them the pw.
They can pay via PayPal in advance and state somewhere they must give you advance notice of what ya need.
Then it should all run smoothly with out it becoming a 2nd, 3rd or 4th job.
Maybe get them to register in a page on here with there address details also, just keep it affordable and easy to get sorted.
Remember most popular ventures start cheap, work to affordable then to reasonable then to ya get what ya pay for. This model works well, if ya slam too high a fee on then ya will scare people off, if a lower fee means you make nothing at first then its something you might have to consider, and look at covering costs at first to generate a user-base then add extras at extra costs and reduce what's currently available for the price.
This sounds mean but it might be only way to make it profitable enough to keep it going.
:O I'm off to bed, been painting and fitting a new washer and dryer and just seen its 4:30 I got less than 4 hours sleep now. :O
