Explanations on the rhythms.

Folowing the topic from Gerald when he gived picture of metronome :
Don't denigrate the metronome!...as Music is not only 'sounds' but 'times' too!
You are right on your comment Gerald.
I said :
* In music, the most important element, is not the melody but the rhythm.
* Without rhythmic placement, no music will make cross some emotion.

I always try to make change the BPI and the BPM to make turn my patterns. But it is not evident, some do not understand and votes are missing to change the setting. At the end of moment I change lounge to be able to adapt only the setting, then ninjammers comes on a setup which is convenient for my frenzy.

To be constructive I give you the link of a video which explains signatures rhythmic with songs which you know.
Lothar will be satisfied to look at it. It is in French.

Saddened for anglophobes, you can look at the explained figures and count beat on music broadcast. (1st example "Money" from Pink Floyd, there are 7 beats by bar. Count!7/4)
have fun,@+

My French (which I stopped

My French (which I stopped learning in 1983) just about got me through that! Very nice video. :)

Another thing that's

Another thing that's important - beyond melody and harmony - is form.

This is why 12 bar blues "doesn't work"... well, not if you have the interval set to four bars of 4/4 (16bpi). The interval not only defines the time signature but must also be adjusted for the musical form. 12 bars of 4/4 is 48bpi :).

I'm not good enough at explaining it to say more than that...

Not to make this harder on

Not to make this harder on the brain, but Ive taken part
in a few 48bpi jams at 16bpi. I think it may only work with two people though.
( the +1 ping pong effect)

Yeah it can work with 2

Yeah it can work with 2 sometimes, more than that and it collapses and keys from other parts form each other merge out of place.

When I compose backings in realtime I try to listen to others styles and leave rhythmic hit points, some hear these and get it spot on, moving in and out of these hit points, some just play play play play until there is no rhythm left. :)

I don;t listen to much music, don't know many band names and or there music but when I do listen the first think I notice is most instruments are doing rhythmic stuff, playing each others notes in parts.
Then I notice that most instruments aren't playing much at all and mostly the same stuff, which may sound boring but when ya all working together it's not.
Sometimes people feel each other and get it spot on and it really makes for an amazing Jam, until you listen later and someone isn't listening as they play so ain't adapting to others, then the whole jam's ruined and worthless. (and eating up Toms HDs) 8^O

Few things worth knowing in a Jam, if someone is doing a fast rhythm on a guitar which lasts a bar or 2 then loops then play a longer rhythm over there's that still leaves them room for there's.
This way you can hit some hit points they create and you can emphasize the rhythm even more.
If someone is doing Elec.Piano, Normal Piano, Clav. or organ etc. then try the same, play longer, if on same instrument jump up or down an octave or use say elec piano long over shorter acoustic piano that's being rhythmic.
If not that then try some pads, which is also good if a couple of keys players already in you can just pad over them both.

For drums, where most have electric kits they can set to a percussion preset, and then add the percussion the other drummer can't manage whilst playing the their drums.

And to any instrument, don't try be the biggest, widest most prominent sound in the jam, unless the jam sounds empty and you know a wide sound will fill it.

Learn your instrument's place in a Jam, not Just how to play it the Best, but that helps too. :D

Tom: Yes, you can get away

Tom:
Yes, you can get away with a lot with only two. I have played recently with someone where we were a full two intervals apart, too. And then someone else joined at +1. Uh... that then gets complicated! :) Given I usually play 8 or 16 bar phrased rock at 16bpi... very naughty, hehe...

Andy:
> Learn your instrument's place in a Jam, not Just how to play it the Best,
That probably sums much of it up well, Andy!

> but that helps too.
Just have to remember that not everyone is there yet; not everyone can hit a chord when told "Cm7, Dm7, D9, Cm7"... (That's a good thing about being a drummer :D) And so on...

I can 't stop playing in 5/4

I can 't stop playing in 5/4 ever since I made a song a few years ago and the time signature just 'is me' now. Just like 4/4 or 2/4 is most people because we walk with 2 legs :)

I really enjoy playing cross rhythms like counting 4 crotchets over 5/8ths and seeing where they eventually line up

^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^- 1+2+3+4+ etc
^----^----^----^----^----^----^----^---- 12345

or 3 over 2

^--^--
^-^-^-

or sub dividing the normal 16 beats with mini rhythmic feels
this works well to mix up a melody or complementary rhythm over the normal 16 beat chord progression that someone else is playing
i.e.
^---^---^---^--- (16)
^--^--^-^--^--^- (variation 1)
^-----^-----^--- (variation 2)
^----^----^--^-- (variation 3)
^-^-^--^-^-^--^- (variation 4)
^-------^--^--^- (variation 5)

and thats only crotchets - moving into 8ths is great for funking it up.

**Edit - dam my characters didn't line up after posting :(

Sometimes I played patterns

Sometimes I played patterns of 8 chords of 4 times with a BPI settled in 16. It work because there was no modulation and because we stayed on the same mode for solo. But in the long run it becomes boring!
4x8 = BPI32 would have of the parametrized being it would have allowed to change mode in the progress of the melody.
Consequently best it is to put the good parameters by discussing between us, and to give itself the chord chart also.
I showed the example with the event Neoclassical preformatted (BPI, BPM, chords progression)which I initialized there in august, it was able to turn 1 hour. The loop was regular and every participant was able to venture on modulations which returned without defect to every cycle.
Often I participate jazzy jam with japanese, and they are disciplined for that.
________________Without good condition nothing start. ____________
The worst case it is when somebody starts a progress and stop 2 measures after and restarts on other thing, stop again............. never a complete cycle of BPI is realized and no participant can understand something.
Sirs it is necessary to persist at least 2 or 3 cycles of the progress bar so that the others can play! Make an effort to understand that at least!

In brief, all this already knew to you! There is not any more to return there!
It is in our collective unconscious.
Let us communicate , let us play with the heart, and let us take some pleasure by jaming!

I remember when I used to

I remember when I used to like 8ths, not no more though, have a much clearer head now, but there are a lot of ninjamers who like 8ths, quarters, ounces and some even spend a week on a bar, there probably the ones who don't play in the servers. ;)
