Based on the first completely electronic movie sound-track Forbidden Planet from 1956 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8y4crGU7dkg
Anything of that era goes. Piece together chunks of detuned synthesizers, guitar amps, ring modulators, lotta tape machines, and nice juicy spring reverbs. Dampen & smooth out the high end, fatten up the low. Whacked out modulated sweeps, drones, thumps, UFOs, warbles, phasers, and maybe monsters from extremely slow samples?
Is it possible to get a rhythmic melody with all this?
Suggest trying software like Guitar Rig and hitting those '+' buttons to open up the hidden knobs. Triangle & sine wave synthesizer oscillators, or maybe even an unrecognizable pitch modulated guitar scrape. Tie real knobs to virtual knobs and go nuts. Leave sonic room for others to add to in time, frequency, and pan. Drummers might try putting in short classic 50-60's computer samples in your sample engine.
